Bolívar Belicosos Finos — tasting notes and pricing context
Bolívar is the strong man of the Habanos catalogue. Named after South American liberator Simón Bolívar and produced at the Partagás factory in Havana, the brand has been the connoisseur's choice for full-bodied Cubans since the 1920s. The Belicosos Finos is the marquee vitola — a 5.5-inch tapered Campana with a 52 ring at the foot — and it delivers Bolívar's signature unapologetically forceful flavour profile.
The smoke is intense from the first puff. Expect leather, pepper, dark earth, and a tar note that some smokers describe as 'the Cuban equivalent of a heavily peated Islay'. The middle third softens into cocoa and aged cedar but never loses the underlying force; the last third earns its reputation as one of the most rewarding finishes in any non-Cohiba premium. Across Europe the box of 25 spreads from £575 at Sautter in London to €612 at Noblego, €595 at Athens-based CigarSmoke, and CHF 745 at Cigarmust — a meaningful £170 (~€200) absolute spread that justifies a few minutes of comparison. The cigar ages exceptionally well; five-year-old Bolívar Belicosos Finos are among the most sought-after aged Cubans in the secondary market.
