About this cigar
Montecristo Open Junior — tasting notes and pricing context
The Línea Open was launched in 2009 as Montecristo's answer to demand for a milder, more accessible Cuban smoke designed for outdoor settings — the line is explicitly marketed toward golfers, hikers, and 'open-air' smokers. The Open Junior is the smallest of the four Open vitolas (Junior, Eagle, Master, Regata) at 4.4 inches by a 38 ring — a slim Petit Robusto designed for a 30-to-40-minute window. The blend uses a lighter Vuelta Abajo filler and a paler, more uniform Habano wrapper than the Línea Clásica, giving the cigar a noticeably milder profile while keeping the Montecristo signature.
The smoke is the gentlest in the Montecristo catalogue. First third opens with hay, butter and a faint sweetness; the middle settles into a creamy cedar core with a touch of honey; the last third delivers a smooth, slightly sweet finish that holds without ever turning harsh. Across Europe a box of 20 (note: Open Series uses box of 20, not 25) sits in the €270 to €340 range: Noblego runs around €295, Cigarworld €310, Cigarmust CHF 330 (~€345 after FX), Italian licensed tabaccherie €300. The Open Junior is one of the most consistently in-stock Cuban SKUs and price-spread is narrow — making it a reliable comparison-shopping target.
