The gift-category piece. The lounge corner you’ve claimed at home deserves an ashtray that doesn’t slide around when you set a Robusto down. This is that ashtray.
The form: 6-inch round, heavy lead-glass crystal, four deep cigar wells at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. Polished base with rubber pads to prevent surface scuffing.
The weight: 1.2kg empty. The whole point. A lightweight ashtray feels like something you’d find at a bad hotel — this one feels like a piece of furniture.
What we’re testing for:
- Weight ≥1kg (the real-crystal threshold)
- Rim — finger around the entire edge, no nicks or chips allowed
- Wells fit a 50RG Robusto — cigar should rest stable, not roll out when the ashtray is tipped slightly
- Base stability — should glide without tipping when nudged
- Optical clarity — held up to light, clear with no bubbles
- Tap test — should ring like a wine glass (real crystal); dull thud means cheap soda glass
Use case: Single-cigar use or shared with one friend (4 wells = 4 cigars in rotation). The shared smoke is what cigar culture is built on, and a working ashtray for two people is genuinely scarce in the under-$100 market.
Pricing reality: Comparable crystal ashtrays at Davidoff or Mr Porter sell at $120–250. TNC pricing reflects direct sourcing.
