About this cigar
Diplomáticos No. 2 — tasting notes and pricing context
Diplomáticos was created in 1966 specifically for the French market, using the same Habanos factory and similar blends to Montecristo. The No. 2 is essentially the Montecristo No. 2 with a slightly different blend ratio — same Pirámides format, same 6.1 inches by 52 ring at the foot, but with a touch more ligero in the filler that gives the cigar a fuller body. For decades the brand was the connoisseur's hack: Montecristo character at 15 to 20 percent less than the cost of an actual Monte No. 2.
The smoke is denser than the Monte No. 2 it shadows. First third opens with espresso, leather and a touch of black pepper; the middle blooms into dark chocolate and dried fruit; the last third delivers a long, oily finish with leather, coffee and aged cedar. A box of 25 sits in the €520 to €635 range: Noblego runs around €545, Cigarmust CHF 605 (~€635). The €100 spread vs. the equivalent Monte No. 2 makes this a connoisseur's value pick.
