Most “best accessories” lists are a pile of gadgets. This one follows the life of a cigar instead: where it waits, what keeps it at the right humidity, how you know the humidity is right, how you cut it, how you light it, and how you carry it.
For each job there is one pick, the reason for it, and a link to the full guide where we compare the alternatives. Prices and ratings were read from Amazon.com on 24 October 2026 (US prices; they move often, and Black Friday is close). These are buying guides built from makers’ specifications, warranty terms and buyer ratings, not hands-on lab tests.
1. Somewhere to keep them: a humidor
Cigars need stable humidity and temperature. Habanos S.A. recommends 16–18 °C and 65–70% relative humidity. A box with a good seal and a Spanish cedar lining is the starting point.
The pick for a first humidor: Tesonway glass-top humidor ($35.99, 4.4★ from 2,094 ratings). A cedar-lined desktop box with a glass lid, at the price of a few cigars.
If you want it to last: Case Elegance Renzo ($88.75, 4.6★ from 6,440 ratings). Sold with thick cedar, and rated by more than 6,000 Amazon buyers.

2. Something to hold the humidity: a Boveda pack
A humidor is only a box. What holds the humidity is the humidifier, and the easiest kind is a two-way pack: it releases moisture when the air is dry and absorbs it when it’s damp.
The pick: Boveda 65%, size 60 ($8.50, 4.8★ from 1,464 ratings). For why we keep Cuban cigars at the low end of the Habanos range, read how to store Cuban cigars: 65%, not 70%. For hot months, see the summer humidity survival guide.
3. A way to check it: a hygrometer
You can’t see humidity. A hygrometer tells you whether the pack is doing its job, and when it’s time to replace it.
The pick: Govee H5075 ($12.99, 4.5★ from 48,591 ratings). Govee rates it at ±3% RH, it shows the reading on your phone so you don’t have to open the lid, and its app has a calibration setting.
Every hygrometer drifts, new ones included. Check yours with table salt or a Boveda 75% kit: how to calibrate a cigar hygrometer.
4. A cutter
A clean cut decides how a cigar draws. One good cutter covers most cigars; a cheap spare in a jacket pocket covers the rest.
The pick: Colibri Premium V-Cut ($49.00, 4.8★ from 5,343 ratings). Spring-loaded, with a two-year Colibri warranty. If you prefer a straight cut, the Colibri Premium Cut is $39.00 (4.4★ from 908 ratings).
Budget spare: TISFA punch ($7.08, 4.6★ from 1,177 ratings). A punch is tidy and fits on a keyring, but it suits mid-size rings best; our vitola table explains.

5. A lighter
A torch lighter burns hot and clean and handles wind. Keep it filled with refined butane: cheap gas leaves residue that clogs the jets.
The pick: PROMISE triple-jet ($15.99, 4.4★ from 2,180 ratings). Refillable, three jets, cheap enough to keep one at home and one in a jacket.
The desk upgrade: Xikar Volta tabletop ($169.00, 4.4★ from 186 ratings). A quad-jet lighter that lives on the table, and a good gift.
Fuel: Xikar Purofine butane (4.8★ from 2,268 ratings).

6. A case for the road
Out of the humidor, a cigar starts drying. For a day out, a leather case is enough; for a trip, you want a hard, sealed case with its own humidity.
For a trip: Cigar Caddy travel case ($27.99, 4.5★ from 1,534 ratings). Hard, airtight and waterproof. Put a Boveda pack inside and it keeps cigars on a trip.
For an evening out: AMANCY 3-finger leather case ($22.69, 4.8★ from 5,261 ratings).
For one cigar: Defuzie aluminium tube ($10.99, 4.8★ from 274 ratings).

We’ve built three gift guides from the same picks: cigar gifts under $50, the best cigar gifts under $100, and gifts for the cigar smoker who has everything.
Quick answers
What accessories does a beginner need? A humidor, a two-way humidity pack, a hygrometer, a cutter and a lighter. The starter kit above comes to $80.55 at today’s Amazon prices.
What humidity should a humidor be at? Habanos S.A. says 65–70% at 16–18 °C. We keep Cuban cigars at 65%.
Do I need a hygrometer if I use Boveda packs? Yes. The pack holds the humidity; the hygrometer tells you when the pack is spent, or when the humidor isn’t sealing.
V-cut, straight cut or punch? All three work. A straight cut suits most shapes, a V-cut takes a narrow wedge that concentrates the draw on thicker rings, and a punch works best on mid-size rings. Our vitola table goes shape by shape.
