Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial — tasting notes and pricing context
The Epicure Especial joined the Le Hoyo line in 2008 to extend the Epicure family with a thicker, longer format. At 5.6 inches by a 50 ring (Habanos calls the shape Hermoso No. 1), it's noticeably bigger than the Epicure No. 2 and delivers more smoke per draw while keeping Hoyo's signature lighter, sweeter blend. The wrapper is the lighter, more uniform Habano that Hoyo de Monterrey uses across the Epicure family; the filler is a touch heavier on seco than the No. 2, which is what gives the Especial its slightly fuller body and longer finish.
The smoke profile is unmistakably Hoyo. First third opens with hay, honey and a faint almond note; the middle drifts into Hoyo's creamy cedar-and-butter core; the last third delivers a long, slightly toasty finish with subtle sweetness. Smoking time runs 70 to 90 minutes. Across Europe a box of 25 sits in the €510 to €620 range: Germany's Noblego runs around €545, Switzerland's Cigarmust CHF 605 (~€635 after FX), Italy's licensed tabaccherie list €555. The €90 absolute spread is moderate, and Hoyo's allocation is consistently better than Cohiba's or Trinidad's — making the Epicure Especial one of the easier 'always available, always price-comparable' Cuban SKUs.
