Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de Río Seco — tasting notes and pricing context
Le Hoyo de Río Seco was added to the Le Hoyo line in 2014 to extend Hoyo de Monterrey into the bigger ring gauges. At 5.5 inches by a 56 ring (Habanos calls the shape Geniales), it's the thickest Hoyo currently in production and one of the rare 56-ring cigars in the Habanos catalogue. Despite the bigger format, the blend stays true to the Le Hoyo signature — lighter, sweeter and creamier than the standard Hoyo de Monterrey line, with the brand's distinctive hay and honey opening.
The smoke is dense but gentle. First third opens with hay, honey and a faint almond note; the middle drifts into Hoyo's creamy cedar core with a touch of toasted bread; the last third delivers a slow, sweet finish that holds for the full 75 to 90 minutes without burning hot. Río Seco ships in box of 10 (not 25 like most Hoyos), and a box sits in the €315 to €380 range across Europe: Noblego runs around €340, Cigarmust CHF 380 (~€400 after FX), Italian licensed tabaccherie €350. The €60 absolute spread is small in absolute terms but meaningful as a percentage on a box this size — comparison-shopping makes the difference between four and five cigars worth of value per box.
